Join us in celebrating the opening of “Anything: Paintings, Prints, Prose” – a solo show by Valden Rattenbury in the Slough City Gallery.
“Anything” is an amalgamation of art that processes past potential for connection and a shift towards intentional action. The art considers expressing regret, acknowledging guilt, and “getting over it,” as well as changing ways, making peace, and moving forward. The work draws from the wake of a complex and confusing queer relationship, one that blurred the lines of romance, sensuality, and friendship. The pieces evolve with contemplation on the beginnings of a new queer and caring relationship that braves communication, where the crossing of these same lines is entwined with embracing their importance. The pieces move from an isolating obsession towards an anything-is-possible understanding.
Valden Rattenbury (he/they) is a California based artist working primarily within printmaking and painting. They were born and raised in Petaluma.
