Shollenberger Park
Shollenberger Park at 1400 Cader Lane, just off Lakeville Highway/Hwy 116 at So. McDowell Blvd. Ext. is a 16-acre park with more than three-miles of trails through a wetlands and wildlife sanctuary area along the Petaluma River. An astonishing variety of birds may be found here in every season. So far more than 150 species have been recorded.
There are docent-led tours on the fourth Saturday of each month, unless it is raining, at 9 a.m.(October through June) starting from the entrance to Shollenberger.
The park is open to visitors throughout the year and those who'd like a self-guided tour can find a wetlands bird species list and trail guide at the park entrance kiosk, at the Petaluma Visitor Center, or click here to download tour. A public restroom and drinking water are available at the park entrance.
Visitors can continue from Shollenberger to the new Ellis Creek Water Recycling facility from the southeastern corner of the park. Ellis Creek has 30 acres of polishing wetlands that are attractive to many species of waterfowl and wildlife which can been seen from the new trail system that circles the ponds.
