Historic Tours
A copy of the Historic Downtown Walking Tour can be downloaded here for a tour of Petaluma's Historic Downtown, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Buildings and landmarks are briefly described in the comprehensive tour. Look for the world's only chicken pharmacy and the entire block of turn-of-the century Iron Front Buildings on Western Avenue.
A Walking Tour of the Trees of Petaluma comes in two separate tours through downtown streets and parks. Tour brochures, available at the Petaluma Visitor Center, 210 Lakeville St./Hwy 116 identify the addresses and trees. Brochures also explain whether the trees are native, extraordinary examples of a species, or heritage trees.
Download the self-guided 23-Mile-Driving Tour to sample of all the elements that make Petaluma unique. The tour introduces the Historic Downtown (which is on the National Register of Historic Places), various vintage residential neighborhoods, industrial locations and shopping attractions. The short drive also ventures into the countryside for a peek at the abandoned chicken houses, relics of a once-booming poultry industry that is part of Petaluma's claim to fame.
