The following is a sampling of specialty food and beverage products proudly produced in Petaluma and available for tasting:

  • Renowned artisan ccheesemaker Cowgirl Creamery offers tours beginning in April at their Petaluma cheesemaking operation at 419 First Street in the Foundry Wharf Business Park. For tour info., call 866-433-7834, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Spring Hill Cheese, produces some specialty cheeses in the 91-year-old Petaluma Creamery building, at 621 Western Ave., but continues to produce cheese at the dairy farm on Spring Hill Road. The store at the Petaluma Creamery was one of the most well known locations in Petaluma, and is remembered fondly for the milkshakes made there when the creamery housed the dairy co-op.   • Visit to the Marin French Cheese Company, 7500 Red Hill Road to enjoy the deli, pond and picnic area daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 1-800-292-6001 for information.

  • Della Fattoria has an enticing selection of locally made-fresh-daily natural breads at 141 Petaluma Blvd. No. This European style bakery and cafe offers breakfast and lunch, along with bread with and house-made pastries using fresh, local, organic ingredients for sale.   • For more local flavor, sample the olive oil from McEvoy Ranch which is located in the western hills of Petaluma. With more than 18,000 olive trees organically grown on 80 acres, the ranch has the largest Tuscan-style, estate grown and produced olive oil company in the United States.   • Satisfy a craving for chocolate at Viva Cocolat, 110 Petaluma Blvd. No., with gourmet chocolate from around the world. A chocoholic's delight, there is a full service espresso bar, desserts, chocolate fondue, gifts, novelties, classes and more at this location. For more information, Call 778-9888.

  • The Petaluma Gap Wine Alliance, produces wines for some of Sonoma County's finest wineries. For more information about the 20-plus wineries and wine growers of the Petaluma Gap,see the web link or call the Petaluma Visitor Center at 769-0429.

    In addition to its wines, Petaluma's two microbreweries produce carefully crafted, award-winning brews to suit a variety of tastes.

  • Dempseys at 50 E. Washington St. serves handcrafted ales. Call 765-9694 for information.

  • Lagunitas Brewing Co. produces many award-winning brews and an unusual selection of new and seasonal ales in a state-of-the art brewing room at 1280 No. McDowell Blvd. Call 769-4495 or visit the website for information about tours and about the newly opened Lagunitas TapRoom & Beer Sanctuary.

  • Sonoma Valley Portworks at 613 2nd St. specializes in award-winning ports and after-dinner wines. Tastings available, call 769-5203 or see the website.

  • Other brews to enjoy are the coffees and teas from Petaluma Coffee & Tea at 212 2nd St. This local company specializes in premium coffees and teas and has been roasting coffee since 1989.
